Cremona Mondomusica 2012

Every autumn, Cremona — the city of Stradivari and Guarneri — welcomes makers, dealers and musicians from all over the world to Mondomusica, the international exhibition of fine handcrafted string instruments.

For Gregorio Martini, who spent six years studying violin making in Cremona, the fair is a homecoming of sorts. On his stand, violins, violas, cellos and a double bass waited to be tried — and they were: cellists, violinists and young students sat down, took up the bow and let the instruments speak.

That moment, when a musician plays an instrument for the first time and starts to listen to it, is the reason the instruments are made.
